Nintendo is the undisputed overlord of innovative inputs, something it has proved time and time again. Not only did it bring us the motion-sensing Wii and the touch-sensitive DS, but also the headache-inducing
Virtual Boy and the light-sensitive
Boktai game.
Still, contentment is the enemy of invention and Nintendo is keen to push on to sensors new with its new game,
Slide Adventure Magkid for the DS.
Built on a new DS attachment called the 'Slide Controller', the game is said to be similar to the
Kirby series and will have an emphasis on action. The player character, called Magkid, will acquire special powers throughout the game by attaching himself to new baddies, forcing players to use different powers on different levels.
The new attachment will connect to the DS by plugging into the GBA (Slot-2) port. Players will then have to hold the DS up so that the slide controller is in contact with a flat surface such as a tabletop. Magkid is then moved around in game by players sliding the DS across their desks.
No North American or European release has been announced just yet, but the game will be launching in Japan on the 2nd of August this year, so DS-aholics can always import it if they feel the need to beat the rush. And can speak Japanese.
What do you think to Nintendo and its attempts to experiment with game design over the years? Tired of the Japanese getting everything first? Let us know what you think in
