Cult Classic FMV game Night Trap is attempting a modern revival through Kickstarter to bring the interactive film to a new audience.
The Original co-creators of Night Trap have taken to the crowd funding platform to request a whopping $330,000 to fund the release, saying they've chosen Kickstarter as a method of financing the project partially to check there is a demand for the remake.
As well as a limited run of physical copies of the revamped game, the team hopes to be able to bring the project to mobile and online channels too. The Kickstarter pitch also teases that they would like to remaster some other Digital Picture FMV classics and have considered the possibility of a Night Trap 2.
The new version will feature the video content presented with a much higher quality and will include the original opening scene that was cut from the game’s initial release.
The minimum pledge available for backers is at the $10 mark which will entitle them to a copy of Night Trap's theme song on cd, but to guarantee a physical copy of the game, a pledge of at least $20 is required. The developers expect to be able to ship the finished copies in April 2015.
The team has already made some progress with the new version and has
'identified and reached agreement with the developer' they intend to use to finish the project. The game is aiming for a PC, Mac, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 release.
As of writing, there has not been the massive surge of support that some video game Kickstarter pitches can sometimes inspire, with just over $11,000 pledged with 28 days left to go.
Rumours that there was a possibility of
Night Trap getting a re-release started to circulate in May this year with rights holder James Riley thanking the support of fans and saying that he'd been talking to a number of interested parties about the project.
The original Night Trap was released in 1992 for the Sega Saturn and 3DO and is notable for being one of the only fondly remembered FMV games that became somewhat of a craze with the advent of the CD.
