Nintendo has lost its battle against the domain squatter sat on WiiU.com for a claim over the domain.
Nintendo of America filed a cyber-squatting complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in February and the decision was posted over the weekend. No explanation of why the complaint was refused has been offered.
The WiiU.com domain is currently registered to a company in Massachusetts in the US and has been with the company since 2004. The site includes links to online degrees and Wii-related search terms.
Before the original complaint, the domain was set for auction on domain name auctioning site SnapNames, but the auction was withdrawn once the case was filed with WIPO.
According to analytics site Compete, WiiU.com pulls in a decent amount of traffic, with visitor volumes hitting between 6,000 and 7,000 around the launch of Nintendo's new console.
According to Nintendo of America chief executive and president Satoru Iwata speaking to investors, the Wii U will see more titles launched by 2014 than weren't shown off at E3.
There was more info than could be released at E3,' said Iwata. 'Don’t want to leave a long gap between announcement/release of new game types that would lessen the impact or allow competitors to copy.'
Some of the upcoming Wii U titles that were announced at E3 included Super Mario 3D World, Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, Super Smash Bros U and Bayonetta 2.
