GamesCom 2010: One of the non-PC games we got a chance to look at at GamesCom in Germany this year was Activision's
GoldenEye for the Wii, which has been revealed to give James Bond the gift of regenerating health.
Regenerating health applies to three of four difficulty modes, the last of which is the 'Classic' mode that only unlocks once you've completed the game. Classic mode is the highest difficulty mode, with players forced to conserve health carefully.
Regenerating health applies in both single and multiplayer portions of the game.
The new
GoldenEye game is a reimagining of the Nintendo 64 classic of the same name, which was developed by Rare – and the word 'reimagining' is key, says Activision.
"
This is a reimagining of GoldenEye," said an Activision spokesperson. "
It is not a remake."
The move to regenerating health is just one of many sweeping changes to the game, the most obvious of which is the replacement of then-Bond Pierce Brosnan with now-Bond Daniel Craig. Dame Judi Dench also appears as the motherly M.
Activision's
GoldenEye adopts the tone of the recent Bond films too, discarding nearly all gadgets in favour of a more edgy approach. Bond's only gizmo in
GoldenEye is his smartphone, which has multiple uses including hacking sentry guns to target enemies.
