While it had previously been hinted that the 3DS would get an
October 2010 release, Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, announced this weekend that the 3DS won't be ready until next year.
Reported first on
GamesBeat, it's speculated that the delay is largely due to Nintendo wanting to make sure it can have adequate supplies of the console ready for launch.
Nintendo hasn't adjusted the only firm date it has given for the 3DS - that it will be released before March 2011.
We don't think Nintendo will be worrying too much about the delay as sales of the current DS console are
reported to still be growing.
At E3 recently Nintendo revealed a list of launch titles for the 3DS, including new
Mario Kart,
Starfox,
Paper Mario and
Kid Icarus titles. Third party games include
Metal Gear Solid,
The Sims 3 and
Resident Evil.
