Markus 'Notch' Persson's follow-up to the wildly successful Minecraft, 0x10c, has been put on hold, possibly indefinitely.
Talking to Polygon, Persson stated that the title has been 'put on ice' until the creative block that the game is currently suffering from is resolved. He also stated that if the title even sees a release, a release date will be a long way off.
'It's not really fun yet, but it feels like it could be fun because there's nothing to do in there yet,' Persson explained.
It is unclear exactly what 0x10c is, but early information suggests it takes parts of the Minecraft formula into space and mixes it up with computer hacking. Early comments from Persson also reveal that the title has its own internal operating system.
Minecraft has enjoyed continued success, clocking up more than 10 million sales on the PC with Xbox and mobile versions bringing that total to over 20 million. Initially developed by Persson alone, he handed control of the game's development over to Jens Bergensten at the end of 2011 to focus on other projects.
Mojang is currently planning to launch a subscription service called Minecraft Realms to allow people greater control over server administration. Aimed at families and children, the service intends to provide a safer environment for children to play the sandbox title online.
