Upcoming MMO APB, which stands for All Points Bulletin, is set to feature audio adverts according to a deal between developer Realtime Worlds and voice-chat firm, Vivox.

According to Toxico, a community officer for the official APB forums, the adverts will be played once every three hours whenever a player enters one of the game's many districts.

A press release sent out today reveals that Vivox will provide voice-chat functionality for APB. Vivox VOIP will be provided to all players for free but with ads, while a Vivox Premium option will remove the adverts at a cost. It's not be revealed how much the premium service will cost yet.

"You will receive a short audio ad once every three hours," an APB community officer told official forum goers. "HOWEVER ads will only be heard when first entering a district."

Check the step-by-step below to understand the VOIP ads as they've currently been explained to fans.

1) You start up the game and enter the social district.
2) You will hear a short audio ad.
3 You stay in social for 2 hours and then switch to an action district.
4) Upon entering the action district you will NOT hear an ad.
5) You play in the action district for 5 hours and do not hear any ads.
6) You exit the game.
7) You start up the game at a later time and enter a district.
8) You will hear a short audio ad.

APB will be financed by making users play for gametime, much like any other MMO, but it has chosen an unusual structure for doing so too. As was unveiled at the end of April, the initial APB code will cost $49.99/£34.99/€49.99 and will include 50 hours of gameplay in the 'action' districts, where players can compete in combat. After that you can buy an additional 20 hours of action gameplay for $6.99/£5.59/€6.29, or 30 days of unlimited action time for $9.99/£7.99/€8.99.

Time in the social districts, where players can chat and create new content with the various editors, is free for anyone who has bought the full game.
