Blizzard's Rob Pardo has said that, while the publisher has long been in a position to make a TV series or film based on the
StarCraft franchise, it would only want to do so with the right talent involved.
In fact, if the Blizzard team were to choose anyone to work on such a project then Pardo says it would have to be James Cameron.
"
We've always had an interest in seeing our stuff on film or TV. It's just tricky to find the right partners," Pardo told
MTV.
"
We probably could have made a ['StarCraft'] movie or something on TV years and years ago, but it's really important to us that we find creative people that are really talented but also really excited about our properties. That's always been the challenge for us."
"
I think if Jim Cameron came to us tomorrow and said, 'You want to make a 'StarCraft' movie?' we'd probably sign that."
That may have to remain a dream for now however, and Blizzard will have to cope with Sam Raimi's work on an upcoming
World of Warcraft film, which is still in the story-development phase.
