Crytek approved TimeSplitters fan-quel in the works

A fan-made sequel to TimeSplitters is in development for the PC and has the blessing of, if not any actual funding from, Crytek.
TimeSplitters Rewind is being built on Crytek's CryEngine 3 by a team of fans that includes members of the original TimeSplitters staff from Free Radical Design.
Crytek president and chief executive Cevat Yerli has stated that fans can make a TimeSplitters mod in CryEngine using assets from the original games without fear of legal interjection from the studio.
Despite receiving this go-ahead however, the Rewind team intends to recreate everything from the ground up, using the original character models for reference only.
Yerli has previously stated that he feels there is not enough demand for an official addition to the time-travelling FPS series and remains unconvinced by fan interest.
The project will feature HD versions of multiplayer elements taken from the original three games with online play for 8-16 players, although the Rewind team intends to try and increase that player count.
Unfortunately, split screen gameplay will not be making its way to the project as CryEngine 3 cannot support this functionality.
