Despite the recent release of a closed beta, Blizzard has just announced that it's next-gen hack'n'slash, Diablo III, will not be released this year after all.
Mike Morhaine, CEO of Blizzard, explained that
'With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn't put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready'.
Diablo III was rumoured back in February to be one of the
two games that Blizzard would release in 2012, but then had its release date changed to 2011. The announcement by Morhaine appears to be a U-turn on the 2011 release date.
'The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we're taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players.'
'Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers.' The other game rumoured to be in Blizzard's 2012 plans is StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, a follow-on expansion from the previous Wings of Liberty add-on.
Are you disappointed that Blizzard has decided to delay the release of Diablo III until 2012, or are you relieved, given the huge number of top titles due for release before Christmas?
Alternatively, have you already tried the beta and think that the game needs a lot more work?
