In a pre-GamesCom 2011 press conference Electronic Arts has announced a new free-to-play MMO spin-off that it hopes will rejuvenate Warhammer Online, dubbed Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes.
A departure from the standards of Warhammer Online, Wrath of Heroes has a more cartoon aesthetic and focuses on six versus six versus six (18 players, three teams) PVP matches.
An official release date for Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes has not been announced, though Electronic Arts has said that it is hoping for an August release.
Electronic Arts has also named Bioware Mythic, the studio behind the original Warhammer Online, as the developers of Wrath of Heroes.
Bioware's Ray Muzyka described the game as being highly accessible and said that Beta sign-ups would begin shortly.
