TV production company Endemol Shine has announced that it is forming a games studio in the UK, with a view to building projects based on both existing and new intellectual properties (IP).
Best known for its gameshow and reality TV format output, including Big Brother and Deal or No Deal, Endemol Shine announced back in May that it was to
build a TV series based on the Mirror's Edge franchise. Now, it's seeking to go the other way, forming a UK-based games studio dubbed Good Catch with half an eye on the possibility of building so-called 'transmedia' projects which will span both TV and gaming.
Speaking to industry outlet
MCV, managing director Anil Mistry explained of the company he now heads: '
We’ve done a few things like the Pointless quiz app. But we were outsourcing a lot of development. If we want to do this properly, we need to get some investment and a bigger team. What we were doing wasn’t very cohesive,' Mistry continued. '
The idea behind Good Catch is to create a label, a standalone game developer and publisher, and bring all those different bits together under one header.'
While Good Catch is likely to build on Endemol's existing IP, it's open to developing its own. '
The dream would be to make a game that was our IP, our mechanics, and we can then grow that beyond games,' Mistry told the outlet. '
If we could make a TV show or animation series based on one of our games, that would be great. We have the infrastructure around us that allows us to do that.'
Good Catch's first output will be a port of Black and White Bushido to consoles, Mistry announced.
