Speaking in a presentation at GamesCom 2011 in Cologne, which officially begins tomorrow, Epic's Mike Capps has confirmed that the developer is currently working on five new titles.

None of these five titles are attached to Epic's Gears of War franchise, said Capps. Better yet, Capps hinted that the PC was the primary platform for at least some of these titles.

'It's nice to target the PC as a primary platform,' said Capps, according to Eurogamer '[rather than using it] just for ports.'

Capps did admit that these five projects are all smaller than previous ventures, however – which is part of a conscious decision on Epic's behalf to avoid the 'disappearing middle class of gaming'.

'Gears of War I hope will do really well, but a pretty good game doesn't make its money back any more. A game like Homefront sells a couple of million copies and they close the studio, right?

'That's not enough any more. That's pretty depressing. You don't want to see what happens to an industry where it's Call of Duty, Halo and Gears and no-one else has enough money to make any games any more. That's not a fun industry.'
