Valve has officially announced the first add-on pack for co-op zombie shooter
Left 4 Dead 2, revealing that it will feature the heroes from both
Left 4 Dead and
Left 4 Dead 2.
Dubbed
The Passing, the campaign is a full-on crossover which, according to an official release, will debut Spring 2010.
Players will get a chance to play as the
Left 4 Dead 2 heroes as they journey through a small town in Georgia following the events of
Left 4 Dead 2's Dead Centre campaign, apparently in a bid to join up with the other survivors.
It's not clear how long the actual campaign will be, but it sounds like
The Passing will be a sizeable update to
Left 4 Dead 2. It'll include a new gun, a new melee weapon and a new uncommon common zombie, though details are yet to be announced.
The Passing will come with new maps for Survival, Versus and Scavenge modes, as well as Singleplayer and Co-op Campaign play. It'll also include a brand new co-op game mode, though Valve is again tight-lipped on the specifics.
Pricing for
The Passing hasn't yet been discussed, so it's unclear whether it'll be a free update or a piece of premium DLC.
"
The Passing will become the most important campaign in the Left 4 Dead story, as all the Survivors are being called together in one campaign," said Valve marketing VP Doug Lombardi. "
It will also be a huge offering of new gameplay content, with something new for every game mode plus a new uncommon common and weaponry."
