An MMO based around the world of Jane Austen has launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring the project to life.
Ever, Jane will allow players to role-play in a virtual world set in the regency period with characters levelling up through completing quests based around actions and stories.
'In the virtual world of Jane Austen, it is not about kill or be killed, but invite and be invited with gossip, our weapon of choice,' explains the developer in the Kickstarter pitch.
A prototype featuring the framework for the gossip and invitation systems along with an example 3D village to walk through and interact with is currently available to download from the Kickstarter page, even for those not leaving a pledge.
The crowd funding project is asking for $100,000 and has 24 days left to raise this. At present, it has already raised more than $35,000 from 774 backers. Judging by an annotation on the pledges description, one investor has pledged $10,000 to the project.
The project page also lists several stretch goals, with estate planning mechanics and the hire of an additional programmer being scheduled for $200,000, an additional designer and landscaping being added at $250,000 and the hire of a full time QA and farming mechanics at $300,000.
At $350,000, the team will add a producer or project manager and implement a player based economy.
Ever, Jane is being developed by Judy Tyrer, who worked on Second Life as a former senior engineering manager at Linden Lab. She was also the lead engineer for Sony Online Entertainment's Magic The Gathering: Tactics.
