THQ has announced a sequel to post-apocalyptic shooter Metro 2033, revealing also that it will be a 3D compatible game.

Danny Bilson, THQ's core games boss, dropped the news to CVG at E3, where Nvidia were already showing a demo of Metro 2033 running in 3D.

Bilson said that the higher engineering costs that accompany 3D technology will be offset by the "unbelievably reasonable" price of producing games in Kiev, Ukraine.

Titled Metro 2034, the game currently has no release date nor definite platforms, though the original was available on both Xbox 360 and PC and so it’s likely the sequel will follow suit.

You can check out our review of Metro 2033 for more information on the original, but suffice it to say that it was very dark and dreary. Fans of the game will be pleased to hear that the first DLC pack for the original will be released in "the very near future", according to THQ.

Are you pleased to hear the news of a 3D sequel to Metro 2033, or have THQ simply developed a case of sequelitis and jumped on the gimmicky bandwagon that is 3D? Let us know your thoughts in the forums.
