Valve has confirmed that Activision's upcoming shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will use Steam's Steamworks back-end to provide a host of multiplayer features and support to the game.

Modern Warfare 3 will, like all Steamworks games, feature Steam achievements and auto-updating of game files. It will also require a Steam account to play.

Valve has confirmed that Steamworks will feature in all copies of the game, regardless of whether they are purchased from retail stores or digital distribution platforms.

Some distributors have previously avoided selling titles included Steamworks however, though no such boycotts have been publicly announced for Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare 3 is also confirmed to feature dedicated servers from launch.
