Online massively multiplayer first person shooter PlanetSide 2 is set to become a regular fixture at Major League Gaming's eSports tournaments thanks to a partnership between the orgnaisation and Sony Online Entertainment.
The game will not be a tournament title in its current form but instead, the PlanetSide 2 team will work with MLG to develop and refine more suitable competitive gameplay features and scenarios to make it a better fit in the eSports scene.
A broadcast schedule of a series of original programming that will air on the MLG network will be released in the next few weeks and PlanetSide 2 players will be able to compete through MLG's GameBattles online competition site.
'From the first time I played PlanetSide 2, I knew that it made sense for the MLG community,' said MLG chief executive and co-founder Sundance DiGiovanni. 'I am excited to introduce the game to our audience and to see how it evolves along with the growing and evolving eSports landscape.'
Free-to-play PlanetSide 2 was Released in November 2012 and has enjoyed a positive critical reception. It features an ongoing conflict between three factions and a dynamic map that shifts depending on the performance of each team.
'PlanetSide 2 players are extremely loyal to their chosen Empires and when it comes to battling, they are beyond competitive and truly enjoy the in-game rivalries, so it was the natural next step for us to bring PlanetSide 2 to the most competitive eSports organization,' said Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley.
