GamesCom 2009: Chatting to some Ubisoft reps at GamesCom this year we found out that there are definite plans to offer strategy fans a chance to get in on a closed beta of
RUSE later this year.
While
RUSE itself is a multiplatform title and seems to be aimed mainly at the console crowd from
what we’ve seen of the game the beta will certainly be taking place on the PC. There’s no word of when it’ll be running exactly, just a generic murmur of ‘later, soon’ from the Ubisoft team.
We got a chance to go hands-on with
RUSE on the PC yesterday at GamesCom and, while we’ll be writing more about it in the coming weeks, we can’t say we were terribly amazed by the simplified interface and streamlined game design.
The zoom and bluff mechanics work well, but it’s hard to see them as anything truly groundbreaking. Bluffing is the central feature of the game, allowing you to redirect and confuse enemies with fake armies and balsa-wood buildings.
The game itself is set for a multi-platform release on Xbox 360, PC and PS3 next year, with Ubisoft now accepting applicants for the closed beta. A quick look at the interwebs reveals that you can sign up for the
RUSE beta over on
the official Ubisoft website.

RUSE for a spin? Let us know your thoughts in the forums.
