The popular Killing Floor mod for Unreal Tournament 2004 has now gone on to get a full retail release over Steam, according to an announcement from modding group Tripwire Interactive.

Killing Floor is one of the most popular mods for Unreal Tournament 2004 and is still widely played despite the release of successor Unreal Tournament 3. The game is co-op affair for up to six players, all of whom have to defend themselves against waves of gory monsters in London-inspired levels.

Where the game differs from the Invasion mode in the original game is in that players have all-new weapons, as well as the ability to weld doors shut and erect barriers ahead of enemy forces. On top of that, the game also has a perk system that brings a degree of RPG gameplay to the mod.

The full retail version of the mod will feature new enemy types, as well as a new slow-motion system called 'ZEDtime', according to Tripwire. The retail version will also get an offline singleplayer mode, as well as Steam achievements and support. There's no current word on when it'll be released though, according to Eurogamer.

If you're anxiously waiting for the enhanced, standalone release of Killing Floor then the best thing to do would be to keep an eye on the official website. Let us know what you think about the mod in the forums.
