The Playstation 4 has outsold the Xbox One in the US retail market according to figures from NPD.
That the Playstation 4 was the top selling console during November was undoubtedly helped by the fact it had a week's head start on the Microsoft console by launching on November 15 ahead of the Xbox One's November 22 release.
In North America and Europe, the Playstation 4 sold more than 2.1 million units, making it the most successful console launch in the history of gaming, beating the previous owners of the record the Nintendo Wii and the Playstation 2.
Microsoft claims that the Xbox One is not trailing far behind with more than 2 million units sold. But, of that figure, just over 900,000 of them were bought in North America.
Both consoles sold more than 1 million units worldwide within their first 24 hours of launch.
Nintendo has also chimed in with some statistics of its own to boast that following the release of Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, they have seen sales of their consoles increase by 100% month-on-month.
Of the launch titles offered with the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, NPD reveals that the top two slots go to the warring first person shooter franchises
Call of Duty: Ghosts and
Battlefield 4 with
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag sneaking up behind in third.
Sony also revealed that since the Playstation 4's launch, there have already been 800,000 gameplay broadcasts using its social sharing feature with 7.1 million spectator sessions streamed through Twitch and Ustream.
