At E3 2010 Konami has officially announced that it is working on a new
Silent Hill game, currently known only under the working title of
Silent Hill 8.
Silent Hill 8 will be developed by Vatra Games, rather than Konami. Vatra is part of the Kuju Entertainment Group, which also covered developers like Headstrong Games.
Silent Hill 8 will be Vatra's first project.
According to the press release
Silent Hill 8 will be released sometime next year on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
As far as the storyline goes, Vatra will introduce new characters to the series and players will take the role of Murphy Pendleton (
That's his name? Really? - Ed), a prison inmate who is the only survivor of a car crash involving his prison transport.
Vatra promises to stay true to the "
fight or flight" feel of the original games.
Feature-wise, Vatra says that
Silent Hill 8 will have optional side-quests which give players a chance to discover new evils within the town.
