Rumours are creeping out of a new
Prince of Persia game; the flames fanned by a new website and trademark linked to the Ubisoft-owned title.
Rumours started two days ago when it was revealed that Jordan Mechner, the creator of the original series, had trademarked the name 'Prince of Persia: Prodigy', a
new website appearing to link in to the title. Mechner, who also worked on the Ubisoft '
Sands of Time' revival series remained close-lipped about the rumour however.
The site in question was later linking to a mysterious site with glowing arcane symbols being swallowed by black goo, though the link has since been removed. Peaking at the source code for the site however brings up some interesting tidbits though according to
Eurogamer. The name of series producer and Montreal developer Ben Mattes is given in the code, as well as mention of
UbiDays, the companies E3 replacement.
Ubisoft community coordinator UbiRazz then fanned the flames some more by pointedly not denying claims that a new title may have been named. UbiRazz then called for fans to relax and give the project some time.
Advertising for the game may have already started too, with the same symbols from the website appearing in a recent issue of Edge magazine as a preview of the next issue.
Meanwhile, industry insider blog
Surf Girl Reviews Star Wars has hosted a few screenshots from a supposed alpha version of the game which she hinted was to be called
Ghosts of the Past and would serve as a prequel - something which would tie in with the new name. Surf Girl also hinted that the game would be more fantastical than previous titles and a female partner for the Prince.
