Croteam has finally lifted the lid on
Serious Sam 3, confirming the key features, full title and release date for the next entry in the hilariously over-the-top Serious Sam series.
Serious Sam 3: BFE is now set for a summer 2011 release on PCs and game consoles, at which point it will introduce a brand new engine for the series.
In keeping with Croteam's tendency to create a messy timeline for the series, Serious Sam 3: BFE (which is actually the fourth major instalment, not counting ports and remakes), will be a prequel to the original game once more set in Egypt.
We don't know what BFE stands for, by the way.
Croteam has confirmed that popular enemies like the Werebull will return and that BFE will retain a furious, arcade-styled action. Other 'key features' include multiplayer, melee attacks and 16-player co-op.
Judging from the quotes in the press release, it looks like fans can expect Serious Sam 3: BFE to feature much of the crass humour the series is known for too...
'
Holy crap, I am going to make a boatload of cash of this game,' said Fork Parker, chief financial officer at publisher Devolver Digital, in the press release. '
I mean that’s what this is all about, right? If this thing comes out in the summer my wife is totally getting the [breast enlargement] she’s been asking for.'
