Playstation President Ken Kuturagi has gone on record with an astounding admission that his company is struggling to meet its committments.
Speaking to Reuters,
Kuturagi said that:
"If you asked me if Sony's strength in hardware was in decline, right now I guess I would have to say that might be true."
His comments apparently come as an admission of the distress that last week's PS3 announcement is causing him, and of the face that Sony has lost in having to back down from its shipping predictions. PS3 will not be launching worldwide as originally planned, and forecasts for unit numbers have been slashed in half.
Sony is notorious for living in a Steve-Jobs-esque reality distortion field, where there are no competitors to the PlayStation and hardware launches are always executed perfectly. It's strange to see such a senior Sony executive admitting failure.
Is Sony losing its hardware prowess?
