Super Meat Boy developer Team Meat has unveiled the next major title it will be working on as Mew-genics.
One half of Team Meat, Edmund McMillen, did not give away too much about the nature of the game but revealed that it would be randomly generated, strange and involve cats.
The idea was formed from an informal game jam that McMillen and fellow developer Tommy Refenes ran about a month ago. They were so taken by the project that they have decided to make it the studio's next official game.
'Mew-Genics is by far the strangest project I've ever worked on and that's saying something,' said McMillen. 'It's been very hard to keep this one a secret.'
Development on the title is moving along swiftly and McMillen expects they will be able to show off some screenshots and further details of the game soon.
The team is also working on Super Meat Boy: The Game, a version of the punishing platformer for iOS devices. The mobile version is being remade from the ground up and was initially announced as a fake April fools joke.
Team Meat's development and release process for Super Meat Boy was charted as part of film documentary Indie Game: The Movie which has since been released on Steam and recently made an appearance on Netflix.
Since the release of Super Meat Boy in 2010, McMillen has gone on to release The Binding of Isaac which started life as a small personal project before growing to a full Steam-distributed release and a follow up expansion pack.
