Ubidays 2008 has seen a string of promising games get unveiled or detailed more fully, like with Beyond Good and Evil 2 or the new Prince of Persia game, but Ubisoft is still trying to remember where it has come from as much as where it’s going to and is celebrating ten years of Tom Clancy games this year after an announcement at Ubidays.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot took the stage at the opening conference to the publishers showcase in the Louvre, Paris and was keen to remind the assembled crowd where the series had begun.
“In 2000 Ubisoft bought up Red Storm Entertainment,” said Yves to a crowd of specially invited journalists from across the world – including us. “The Tom Clancy games started back with Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six and are still going today.”
Meanwhile a montage of footage from Tom Clancy games was projected onto the wall behind him as part of Ubisoft's 'temporary exhibition' in the Louvre. The video included snippets from Rainbow Six, Endwar, Splinter Cell and the Vegas games – all set within the Tom Clancy universe.
“Now the franchise continues this fall with Tom Clancy's Hawx and Endwar games,” added Yves.
Speaking of which, we've just finished a hands-on playthrough of the latest build of Endwar – though voice-on would be a better description of the vocally driven console RTS. Expect to see a full preview in the coming week for more details.
