Sierra Entertainment has announced that
World in Conflict will finally be making the move to next-gen consoles later this year.
World in Conflict was one of the best games of last year - if not
the best strategy game in fact - and placed respectably in our
Top 10 Games of 2007. However, whereas before the game was limited only to PC gamers with decent enough rigs to render the lush graphics, it will now be available on consoles too.
Sierra has announced that
World in Conflict will be ported to both next-gen consoles; the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Unsurprisingly a Wii version hasn't been announced.
No release date has yet been nailed down firmly, but Sierra has said it is aiming for Autumn 2008, so gamepad gurus should have chance to perfect their skills before Christmas.
No information has been given regarding difference between the console or PC versions, but we spoke to Magnus Jensen, who was lead designer on
World in Conflict a short while ago about
what it takes to design a strategy game and one of the issues we touched upon was console RTS'. The article is certainly worth a look from any RTS fanatics.
How do you think the console port of the game will hold up compared to the PC version? Is it possible to have a decent RTS interface for a console? Let us know what you think in
the forums.
