Capcom has finally delivered on the long-circulating rumours of a new
Street Fighter game by unveiling
Super Street Fighter IV - which should be like the original, but
more superer superior, apparently.
Super Street Fighter IV will be a standalone title which includes all the characters and locations from the previous game, but expands on things by adding in eight new playable characters and a bunch of new features suggested by the community.
Three of the new characters have been unveiled already -
Street Fighter classics T. Hawk and Dee Jay, plus a new character called Juri. All existing characters have apparently been tweaked and expanded upon too.
Capcom hasn't yet given out specifics about how the core game has been improved, but promises that all the major suggestions from the fans have been implemented and that the online system has been improved as well.
Addressing concerns that the game will essentially just be an expansion pack or could be rolled out as downloadable content, Capcom promises that the game won't be released at full price and that gamers who end up owning both versions of the game will be able to access a special reward. The reward itself is still a mystery.
Super Street Fighter IV is set for a Spring 2010 release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 - with no PC version yet discussed, though we have contacted Capcom for comment.
Personally, we're just disappointed that Capcom hasn't stayed true to form and called it
Super-Hyper Street Fighter IV Alpha Turbo: Special Edition. Let us know your thoughts in
the forums and check out our
review of the original Street Fighter IV for more info on the series.
