2K Games has delayed upcoming comic-book tie-in shooter The Darkness 2 until next year, as developer Digital Extremes apparently needs more time to polish the game.

The Darkness 2 will now be released on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on February 10th, 2012.

Developer Digital Extremes, which is taking over from Starbreeze, had originally been aiming for a 7th October 2011 release.

The Darkness 2 picks up two years after the events of 2007's The Darkness, with players taking the role of Jackie Estacado, a mobster who wields the power of Darkness - big, inky tentacles and demonic underlings that he can control at will.

The look and feel of the game is said to be a departure from the 2007 original and will more closely link to the comic book series that the games are based on, though we haven't played the game for ourselves yet.

Delayed? Oh no! I was so looking forward to Darkness 2! Although I don't know how they'll ever top "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" this time around...

The first game was good, I'm looking forward to seeing what they'll do with it this time.
