Hardware manufacturer Gigabyte has announced the Gigabyte Open Overclocking Championship 2010, which looks to sort the wheat from the chaff when it comes to extreme clock speeds - and we'll be there.
The open-invite event is scheduled for the 16th of April at the SNO!bar in Milton Keynes' XSCAPE - and it's going to be even bigger than
last year's effort, with a range of competitors battling it out to take the top prize.
The concept is simple: Gigabyte will be providing entrants with GA-X58A-UD7 motherboards and Intel i7 980X processors - and it's then up to each team to try to coax as much clockspeed from the rig as possible, using any cooling mechanism to hand. While many will be relying on traditional watercooling systems, Gigabyte has promised that more esoteric coolants - including dry ice and the fabled liquid nitrogen - will be making an appearance in the search for speed.
As well as a crack team assembled from your beloved bit-tech and Custom PC crew, entrants from Scan Computers, YoYo Tech, Atomic Tech, OC UK, Benchtech, Aria, Overclockers' Tech, Clunk, OP3, Darkcat Systems, and others will be there - along with an in-house team made up from members of Gigabyte's forums. A special guest appearance from the company's pet extreme overclocker HiCookie has also been promised.
If you're into extreme overclocking - or if you just fancy meeting the bit-tech and Custom PC team - you owe it to yourself to get to the event, which will take place between 10 AM and 5 PM.
Any readers going to make a pledge to head to Milton Keynes and show their support for our team, or have the infamous
concrete cows scared you off? Any tricks you'd like to share to increase our chances of winning? Sound off over in
the forums.
