The ones to watch

Assuming you've got some suitable software, here's bit-tech's picks of the best IPTV shows out there.

Technology

Diggnation: Many of you will know the social-news-bookmarking-website Digg.com. Diggnation is the official video podcast, and has hosts Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht discussing the week's top stories. Some shows are mundane, others are hilarious, and a small few (mainly the live shows that the hosts do in front of an audience) are absolutely riotous, usually in direct correlation to the amount of beer drunk at a time. Diggnation is always amusing without necessarily being particularly insightful.

Hak.5: Surely the modder's favourite, Hak.5 is an awesome show for real hardcore geeks. The presenters are hacking gurus with specialities in software and hardware, and the show covers a range of news and tutorials that cover topics as diverse as the best open source apps to put on a USB stick to a 'how-to' build of a MAME machine. The guys know what they're talking about, and the show now sports some slick presentation to accompany the high-quality content. Definitely worth a download.

The 1UP show: Made by the guys at Ziff Davis publishing house in the States (responsible for 1up.com, Electronic Gaming Monthly and Official PS2 magazines) this show covers the latest in gaming happenings. One of the most consistently entertaining shows on the net, it has scoops and video footage of the hottest games as well as awesome interviews with gaming luminaries. EGM is the biggest gaming magazine in the States, and as such, the producers of the 1up show get the best access to the best events - and it shows.

Digital Life TV: Many of you will be fans of the This Week in Tech audio podcast, and will therefore be happy to know that Patrick Norton, one of the hosts, has his own IPTV show. DL.TV covers the latest in gizmos and computer kit, although the US angle means that mobile phone news is a little dated - UK readers will surely be aware that the mobile market in the States is considerably slower-moving than over here. Norton's co-host Robert Heron is Mr HDTV, so viewers hoping to pick up some nuggets of info on the best kit to accompany their Xbox 360 will be in luck. DLTV is notable for being a professional podcast - not only does it go out twice a week, it also has adverts in the middle.
