Today, ATI announced its latest addition to its dominating line of Mobility Radeon products: the Mobility Radeon X800 XT. The card is very similar to their previous high end part, the MR X800, but features more pixel pushing power than has ever been witnessed in a notebook.
Alienware are one company who have taken the Mobility Radeon X800 XT under its wings for their Area 51-M 7700 series of high performance desktop replacement notebooks. The core and memory clock speeds in that part are 480/1100MHz. Clock speeds can often vary between notebook manufacturers so we cannot report on the expected clock speeds from other manufacturers.
The GPU, codenamed M28 Pro, is the first 16 pixel pipeline mobility graphics processing unit. Along with the 16 pixel pipelines, it also has 6 vertex shaders and the same set of features that we discussed when the Mobility Radeon X700 was announced in January. These include the likes of PowerPlay 5, and 3Dc compression technology.
As you can guess from the memory's clock speed on the Area 51-M 7700 series notebook, the GPU has support for up to 256MB of GDDR3 memory, coupled with a 256-bit memory interface. Anandtech have a performance preview on the Alienware Area 51-M 7700 series notebook that is well worth looking at.
