If that 1200 Watt beast that PC Power & Cooling released a couple of weeks back was just too much for you, then Corsair hopes to satisfy your power needs with the introduction of its TX Series of PSUs.
The TX Series is designed to be high-wattage, high-performance PSUs with an efficiency rating of 80 percent and above under various load levels. Featuring a 140mm double ball-bearing fan, the 650TX and 750TX are said to be "whisper quiet" while also maintaining a cool operating temperature.
Other key features in this new line of PSUs include a 99 percent Active Power Factor Correction that provides clean and reliable power to your system, universal AC input that will automatically scan and detect the correct voltage, dedicated single +12V rail, over current/voltage/power protection, under voltage protection, short circuit protection, and extra long cables to support full tower cases.
Fans of modular power supplies will need to look elsewhere though. The 650TX and 750TX only come in cabled versions and with two floppy, eight molex, eight SATA, one ATX12V, and one ATX 24 pin connector, some may find that there are too many cables to hide. The 750TX also has four PCI-E 8-pin connections while the 650TX only has two.
MSRP for the CMPSU-650TX is $179.99 (probably around £100 in the UK) while the CMPSU-750TX comes in at $199.99 (around £120 inc. VAT).
If you're looking for a new PSU, then you might want to take a gander at one of these or check out Gigabyte's Odin 800W GT that Richard reviewed on Monday. Whatever you choose, just try not to skimp on your PSU because you're feeling a bit cheap. You wouldn't want to have to replace your entire rig because you bought a cheap PSU that doesn't do what it's supposed to do.
