According to an article on The Inquirer, ATI are getting ready to fully launch its answer to NVIDIA's SLI. We previewed the technology back in June, and you can read all about it here.

ATI's CrossFire has some benefits over NVIDIA's SLI, in that it is said to work in any title without any need for the end user to play around with configuring profiles.

This launch will not coincide with the launch of ATI's next-generation R520, which is believed to be on schedule for launch some time in September.

We understand that motherboards are just about ready, as are the video cards - we're just waiting on the drivers to be finalised at the moment.

We're currently unsure as to when widespread availability will happen, but we would be surprised if it didn't ship in good quantities on the same day or at least the same week after NVIDIA's almost perfect GeForce 7800 GTX launch. We hope that ATI knows immediate availability is the way it's meant to be played.
