ECS and Gigabyte are going to team up to take on the big players in the graphics market, according to the Taiwan Economic News this morning (via the Inquirer.

According to the report, Asus has made some big inroads by offering motherboards and graphics cards using all the major chips from all the major players.

Asus was the first tier-one player to offer both Nvidia and ATI graphics chips across its line of products, back in the GeForceFX days. Whilst everyone does it now, back in the day it was a heck of a move that appears to have paid off for the firm.

ECS have recently made inroads back into the enthusiast market with a range of 'Extreme'-branded motherboards. This deal will see it sharing technology and expertise with Gigabyte to take on Asus in every graphics segment from value to enthusiast.

More competition in the market always means better prices, so we can't wait to see what this entry to the market will do. We'd hope that they'll be bringing out boards based on Nvidia G70 in the very near future.

Looking forward to seeing these guys slugging it out? Give us your thoughts!

EDIT: ECS have called us to tell us that this story isn't true, and that there will be no cooperation between Gigabyte and ECS on this matter. It seems like the Taiwan Economic News rather got their wires crossed!
