Apple has revealed the latest version of its high-resolution MacBook Pro with Retina Display laptops, as well as revealed the price of its stunning new Mac Pro.

The chief addition to the new laptops is a move to Haswell processors that as well as boosting performance have also increased battery life, with both models stretching to 9 hours.

The 13in model will boast Intel Iris graphics, but the 15in model will have both a Crystalwell Haswell chip with Iris Pro graphics (the ones that sport embedded eDRAM) and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 750M.

The design of the new MacBook Pros is identical to that of previous models so retains the slim, aluminium unibody frame and 2560x1600 (13in) and 2880x1800 (15in) resolution displays.

Prices for the new models start at $1299 and rise to $1999, making them $200 cheaper than before. Both are available immediately.

Also revealed today was the price for the stunning new Mac Pro. The tiny, cylindrical computer that packs in two AMD graphics cards and an Intel Xeon processor will start at a staggering $2999 and be hitting shops in December.

Finishing off the Mac-based announcements from its Special Event today, Apple also revealed the new version of its operating system, OSX Mavericks, will be available for free.
