If Dell's space-age Adamo ultraportable is just a little too strange - not to mention pricey - for you, check out the company's new Vostro V13.

Previewed over on Electronista, the Vostro V13 is designed to bring the lessons the company learned from its experience making the Adamo XPS - with its angled, wedge design which instantly divided opinions in the forums - to a more businesslike form factor.

Although just as slim as the Adamo XPS at 1.65cm, the new Vostro V13 is designed for the budget conscious with Dell confirming that pricing will start at $449 (£273) - significantly less than the cost of either the Adamo XPS or the MacBook Air which kickstarted the current trend in ultra-thin laptops.

While actual specifications have not yet been released, you can see from the images that the V13 has a surprisingly decent number of ports. Unlike the MacBook Air, which features but a single USB 2.0 port, the V13 will come with an eSATA port for connecting external storage directly to the SATA bus, a wired Ethernet port, USB 2.0, and a VGA output. Dell have even managed to find room to squeeze a multi-format card reader in there.

Further details of the spec available at launch are as yet unknown, although at such a low price, you've got to wonder if the V13 will be restricted to the ultra-low voltage variants of Intel's Celeron line - something which will make the performance numbers as slender as its profile. Although it's possible that the CULV editions of the Core 2 range could make an appearance, it's likely that this option - if available - will bump the price up from its $449 staring point.

Is this the sort of ultraportable you'd be interested in buying, or do you need a little more style? Share your thoughts over in the forums.
