Nokia reveals first tablet and phablet with Lumia 2520 and 1520

Nokia has lifted the lid on a new pair of Windows devices with the launch of the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet and the Nokia Lumia 1520 phone.
Long rumoured, the new tablet is Nokia's first foray into the tablet space and will be one of only a handful of devices available that run the tablet-specific Windows RT operating system. Most other manufacturers have left Windows RT well alone following a poor initial response from the public, with Microsoft's own Surface being the only reasonably successful device.
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop described the new tablet as “the first Nokia tablet and a great addition to the Lumia family. We designed the Nokia Lumia 2520 to feel great in your hand and be truly portable and get it out of the house.”
Also announced is a new addition to the company's Windows Phone lineup. The Nokia Lumia 1520 is the company's first so called phablet, thanks to its over-size 6in screen. It will be the first Nokia Windows Phone to feature a 1080p display, matching that of its rivals - previous flagship Nokia Lumia devices have been limited to 720p. However, unlike the original and most popular phablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note, the 2520 doesn't incorporate a stylus.
Elop again chimed in about the Nokia Lumia 1520, saying “Today I would like to share with you how our Lumia portfolio continues to grow, not just in number, but actually in size.”
Nokia Lumia 2520
Set to hit retailers later this year for $499, the Lumia 2520 is to be powered by a Qualcomm 8974 chipset and feature optional 4G connectivity. Like the company's phones it will have a polycarbonate chassis, available in a range of bright colours, while the screen is finished in Corning Gorilla Glass and will feature a 10.2in display.
Round the back will be a 6megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, while internally the hefty battery will deliver 11 hours of battery life.
Also available will be a keyboard cover called Nokia Power Keyboard, which will add 5hours battery life, a keyboard and a touchpad.
Nokia Lumia 1520
As well as its large, high resolution screen, the other standout feature of the Nokia Lumia 1520 will be its 20-megapixel PureView camera. Although this doesn't rival the 41-Megapixel model used on the Nokia Lumia 1020, it is still very high for a phone. More regrettable is that the optical image stabilisation and Xenon flash of the 1020 have also been ditched, with software features such as Nokia Camera and Nokia Storyteller hoping to make up the shortfall.
As with the 2520, the 1520 will have a polycarbonate shall, available in red, yellow, white and black. It will also pack 32GB of storage and a microSD slot able to accomdate cards up to 64GB.
There's no firm release date for the 1520 yet but a price of $749 has been confirmed.
