Samsung has unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Round, a new smartphone that features a curved OLED screen.

The new model is essentially the same as the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Note 3 but where that model features a standard flat 5in screen, here it is concavely curved along the vertical axis, just like Samsung's own curved OLED TVs.

Although the effect may sound like a gimmick it could make for a more comfortable grip and make it easier to reach parts of the screen.

Samsung has also added some new features to take advantage of the curved profile. The most notable is called 'Round Interaction' which shows basic information like the date and time when you tilt the phone towards you when it's on resting on a flat surface.

Like the Note 3, the Round will feature a largely class-leading list of specs including a 5.7in 1080p display, a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, a 13megapixel camera, 3GB of RAM and a 2,800mAh battery.

Although it is a large phone it is slim and light at just 7.9mm thick and 154 grams in weight.

Set to arrive in a "Luxury Brown" finish, it will have a "leather-like" back and will set you back 1.09 million South Korean won (about £632). There's no word on a release date for the rest of the world, though.
