Users of MSI motherboards who have recently installed an update to unlock support for Intel's Kaby Lake processors may want to keep a close eye on the company's website, as it has pulled BIOS releases over an unspecified error.

MSI, along with its various rivals, recently announced that its Skylake-era motherboards were getting an overhaul to support Intel's latest Kaby Lake chips. Rather than requiring a new board, the Kaby Lake support has been introduced as a freely available BIOS update - but one to which, it would appear, MSI has accidentally introduced a glitch, the severity of which has given it cause to pull the updates from its website entirely.

The issue was first brought to light by German technology site Computer Base, which posted an update to its original launch story late yesterday indicating that MSI had pulled the updates. While MSI's press release detailing the BIOS updates remains unchanged, Computer Base received a statement from the company explaining the updates were removed on Thursday this week as 'an error was found [which] will be corrected currently.'

Details of precisely what the error is and its impact on users are not yet available, but anyone who has installed the updates would be well advised to roll back to an earlier non-Kaby Lake release or to keep a close eye on MSI's website and install the fixed updates as soon as they are available.
