Samsung has announced a new all-in-one PC featuring a curved display, alongside a new ultra-portable laptop boasting a 2,560x1,600 resolution to its 12.2" display.
The Samsung Ativ One 7 Curved, to give the bended all-in-one its full name, packs its components into the body of a 27" 1,920x1,080 Full HD display panel curved along the horizontal axis for - proponents of the design claim - improved immersion in games and films. An in-plane switching (IPS) panel boasts a 178-degree viewing angle and a claimed 300 nit brightness, embedded into what Samsung describes as 'a sleek, metallic deco frame and complimentary stand.' Two dynamic 10W speakers are included, alongside Dolby Sound Effects software processing to improve perceived audio quality.
Internally, the machine includes a low-power Intel Core-i5 processor with Intel HD Graphics 5500 integrated graphics and a minimum of 8GB of RAM. Storage is handled by a 1TB 5,400rpm spinning-platter drive with unspecified flash cache module, and comes with Windows 8.1 64-bit pre-installed. Additional features include two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, a 3-in-1 SD card reader and Full HD webcam, all finished in what Samsung has strangely chosen to call 'Rusty Black.'
The Ativ One 7 Curved is to be joined at launch by a new ultra-portable, the Ativ Book 9. Based around a high-resolution 2,650x1,600 12.2" display panel, the ultra-portable laptop packs an Intel Core-M 5Y10c processor with Intel HD Graphics 5300, 4GB or 8GB of RAM, a 128GB or 256GB SSD, and a battery offering up to 10.5 hours of runtime per charge. Additional features include dual 1.5W speakers driven by a Wolfson WM5102 chip, two USB 3.0 ports, micro-HDMI and wired RJ45 networking via a bundled dongle.
Both machines are due to launch in the first quarter of next year, with the Ativ One 7 Curved starting at $1,299.99 and the two models of Ativ Book 9 starting at $1,199.99 and $1,399.99 (around £834, £770, and £899 respectively, excluding taxes.)
