Cooler Master has announced a new gaming keyboard and mouse bundle under its CM Storm sub-brand, dubbed the Octane and promising to build on the success of its Devastator bundle.
The CM Storm Octane pack includes a full-size gaming keyboard and a wired mouse, and while mechanical switch aficionados will be disappointed to see that the keyboard comes with a more sedate rubber-dome mechanism those who play in the dark will be pleased by its seven-colour backlighting system which carries over into a pair of glowing 'eyes' on the mouse.
The Octane keyboard itself promises the aforementioned seven-colour backlighting system with solid and pulsing modes, along with dedicated media playback shortcuts, a dedicated backlight switching key, and the ability to lock the Windows key off during gameplay. Repeat rates are hardware-adjustable, while Cooler Master promises 19-key anti-ghosting technology to prevent instructions being missed. A wrist-rest is built onto the keyboard to help prevent fatigue.
The Octane mouse, meanwhile, is based around the Avago 3050 optical sensor and includes hardware-switchable resolution from 500 dots per inch (DPI) to 3,500 dpi, toggleable in four stages. The mechanical switches used for the main buttons are claimed to have a 10 million click lifespan, and as you might expect from a gaming mouse includes additional shortcut buttons and a high-accuracy scroll wheel.
The keyboard measures 471mm x 196mm and weighs 920g including its non-removable wrist-rest, while the mouse adds an additional 116g to the bundle. UK pricing and availability for the pack has yet to be confirmed, with more details available on the
official website.
