Tt eSports, the pro-gaming sub-brand of Thermaltake, has announced the launch of a redesigned variant of its Cronos headset - dubbed, unimaginatively, the 2015 Cronos.
Based on the company's existing Cronos design, the exterior is largely unchanged from its previous incarnation. The over-ear design includes padding for the head and ear pieces, while a foldable microphone can be bent to optimise the angle of pick-up for clear voice communications. The red-and-black styling includes Tt eSports' logo to the sides and some aggressive accent marks, while the earpieces fold flat for storage or transportation and an in-line controller provides volume and microphone mute functions on a cable which detaches from a mini-USB-style port.
So far, no changes. Where Tt eSports claims to have improved the design is in the 40mm driver units located in each earpiece. A change in their design, the company claims, has resulted in improvements in their a frequency response at 19Hz to 100Hz - meaning boosted bass output. How noticeable this difference will prove in daily use is, of course, questionable - but it's this change that has given Thermaltake cause to relaunch the headset as a 2015 edition.
The 2015 Cronos headset has been launched in the US with a suggested retail price of $49.99 (around £31.95 excluding taxes). More information is available on the
official website.
