Corsair has announced that it's recalling one model of its new Force 3 SSDs, due to stability issues.
According to Corsair, only 120GB SSDs with the part number CSSD-F120GB3-BK are affected by the problems, which don't affect all Force 3 SSDs. However, if you own an SSD with the offending model number, Corsair recommends that you stop using it immediately, even if you haven't experienced any problems with it.
Thankfully, Corsair has stopped shipping the drives and has a fix for the problem, but you'll need to physically return the SSD, as the fix requires changes to the SSD's hardware components, as well as a firmware update.
However, Corsair has told us that it will cover the cost of customers returning the drives, and the company will then replace them with new Force 3 drives with the hardware and firmware fixes. Alternatively, Corsair says you can return the drives to the place of purchase.
In a statement, the company explained that it had spent several days analysing
'issues associated with the stability of our recently released 120GB Force Series 3 SSD. Our review has identified that a significant percentage of these drive do not operate to specifications.'
The Force 3 range, which uses the latest SandForce controller, was only launched
last month, but promises speeds that should enable it to keep up with our current favourite, the
OCZ Vertex 3, which uses the same SandForce SF-2281 controller. If you have an SSD with the model number CSSD-F120GB3-BK SSD, then head over to Corsair's forum
