Media center PCs increase UK’s carbon footprint

June 25, 2008: Rome, Italy: Hyundai Imagequest Italy announced today their BlueH HM22D multi-function 22” High-Definition monitor/TV. “Multi-function TFT devices are a growth area for us” remarked Shane Hilden, Managing Director Smithie UK Ltd, sole distributors for Hyundai monitors in the UK region. “Consumers are not only demanding larger sized monitors for their PCs, over 85% of our sales are now over 19”, the additional digital TV functionality is also becoming an important factor in a purchasing decision. The UK’s digital switch-over in 2010 is becoming more pertinent in people’s minds” continued Hilden.

In the typical bedroom, family or home office environment, media center type functionality is a fantastic addition to a PC, but the extra power requirements of running a 200-300W computer just to watch and record TV is not helping the UK’s carbon footprint.

“The BlueH HM22D may not record or pause live TV, but for quick access to a huge range of digital entertainment and news offers both a user-friendly and eco-friendly option for consumers” explained Seong Kon Chi, Managing Director Hyundai Imagequest Italy, “The HM22D consumes less than 3 Watts of power at full brightness and for recording functionality, the Hyundai all-in-one PC-independent HD HDR-350Q media center runs at just 3 Watts idle” he concluded. That’s at least an additional 8 hours viewing time per 1 hour using a media center PC1.

Supporting full 1080i HD and running at a PC-standard WUXGA (1680x1050 pixels) resolution, the HM22D will display widescreen and traditional 4:3 images with a respectable 300cd/m3 brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio and 5ms response time. Connectivity includes HDMI, VGA, component, S-video/composite and SCART analogue ports. For users requiring a DVI input, an optional low-cost adaptor will convert HDMI to DVI, although graphics cards featuring HDMI connections are becoming increasingly more common.

The BlueH HM22D is available in retail now for £200+VAT from novatech.com and other reputable e-tailers.

1. Based on average 25W power consumption, 33% idle, 33% playback, 33% recording. Maximum power usage is 45W while recording.
