When Windows 7 begins shipping, DisplayLink will be ready to support it

Innovators at DisplayLink have started working on driver development for Windows 7, aiming to ensure that the next-generation of DisplayLink-enabled monitors, adapters, docks and projectors will be compatible with Windows 7-based PCs.

DisplayLink network display hardware and software is designed to help people easily connect one computer to multiple displays with the simple snap of a USB connection. Its ‘plug and display’ technology is currently used to power an array of consumer devices and laptop accessories that make multi-display computing more efficient than any other solution on the market.

“DisplayLink engineers have started this important development work to make our customers’ transition to Windows 7 as smooth as possible,” said Hamid Farzaneh, DisplayLink president and CEO. “All of our software’s popular capabilities – like auto-install, high-quality video, 32-bit true-colour graphics, 3D support, and more – will be enhanced or extended to continue providing excellent multi-monitor computing experiences to all Windows users.”

The company is showing its USB graphics expertise this week at the WinHEC 2008 conference, an event joining Microsoft with engineers, developers, product planners and other innovators in the PC and device hardware industry.

“DisplayLink is a valuable partner in ensuring a smooth and seamless experience for customers connecting multiple monitors to Windows PCs via USB,” said Gary Schare, director of hardware ecosystem product management at Microsoft Corp. “Microsoft is excited by DisplayLink’s early work to ensure compatibility with Windows 7.”

In booth 516, DisplayLink will show early versions of its drivers running on Windows 7. Other USB display solutions to be demonstrated include:

- Green IT – demonstrating an 80 percent power saving over traditional add-in graphics solutions
- Multiple displays – showcasing six monitors from one PC, all connected over USB
- Wireless adapters – highlighting the benefits of wireless freedom between the PC and display
- DisplayLink optimised – demonstrating lower power consumption, better high definition video playback and improved 3D gaming on Intel 4-series graphics

DisplayLink USB graphics technology is optimised to support all major versions of Windows operating systems; including Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit).
