London, UK – 26th February 2010: Thermaltake, a world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of chassis, power supplies and cooling solutions has today its most powerful air cooler ever, the Frio – Spanish for cool.
As processors get more and more powerful, the need to effectively dissipate heat becomes more and more crucial.
The cooler weighs in at just over 1Kg and is supplied with a pair of whisper-quiet, high-air-volume cooling fans.
Frio is a universal cooler, supplied with fittings for all of today’s performance processors, from AMD Phenom II through to the high-end Intel Core i7 processors.
Explaining the latest addition to Thermaltake’s enthusiast product line-up, UK Country Manager Jerry Lee said “Frio’s performance is just awesome. We have been testing it against the very best air coolers in the market – at the extreme end of the performance spectrum – and the results are astounding”.
“Pushing a processor to the edge of its performance envelope, means you generate a substantial amount of heat. Dissipating that heat becomes the single biggest challenge for your system. With the Thermaltake Frio, we have moved the goal posts for everyone else in the market”, explained Lee.
“Our engineers have utilised five 8mm high-efficiency heatpipes to draw heat quickly away from the CPU and direct it to a series of 48 aluminium fins. These fins provide a huge surface area for heat dissipation and the supplied fans ensure that as much energy is removed each second as possible”, said Lee. “Also, the spacing between the fins is crucial. We have engineered them to provide maximum turbulence – increasing the chance of heat transference for each molecule of air passing through”.
Focusing on Frio’s performance at different ends of the thermal spectrum, Lee said “Thermaltake has not designed this cooler to replace a stock solution in an entry level machine. Choosing Frio means that you are a hardcore power user with serious overclocking skills. You want to use those skills to get every last drop of performance from your processor. When you reach the edge of that performance envelope – that’s when you should reach for Thermaltake’s Frio”.
Asked about pure performance and whether the Thermaltake Frio really is the best air cooler in the market, Lee said “If you take each of the top air cooling solutions out of the box with all of the components ‘as supplied’, then integrate that cooler onto an Intel Core i7 975 Extreme Edition overclocked to 4.2Ghz - we’re confident that Frio will stand head and shoulders above the rest”.
The Thermaltake Frio is supplied with one high-efficiency fan fitted and the second fan in the box – so that each user can choose the configuration that best suits their needs.
UK pricing is expected to be under £39, giving enthusiasts an interesting new choice – at a highly affordable price point.
