Free hotspot access to new notebook customers across UK
LONDON, UK May 18, 2009 – HP today announced that new small and medium business customers will soon be able to take advantage of free WiFi access throughout the UK thanks to a strategic partnership with The Cloud, Europe’s largest independent provider of mobile WiFi broadband.
From May 1, all new HP customers purchasing either B- or P-Range commercial notebooks or Mobile Workstations will receive free WiFi access for a year across The Cloud’s entire UK network, worth more than £100 per device.
The partnership, aimed primarily at the SMB community, will give HP’s customers fast, seamless and secure wireless-internet access at thousands of hotspots across the UK. Customers can activate the service with a simple online registration and download client software that will automatically connect their HP notebook or Mobile Workstation to the internet whenever it is in range of one of The Cloud’s hotspots and other WiFi networks regularly used by the customer. There is no need to input credit card details or remember a user-name and password each time a connection is required.
“We know through talking to our customers that anywhere, anytime connectivity is high-up on the business agenda in order to help maximise productivity, however connectivity comes at an added cost,” said David Wright, Vice President and General Manager, HP Personal Systems Group UK and Ireland. “This innovative proposition demonstrates HP’s commitment to our SMB customers by giving them access to the largest network of WiFi hotspots in the UK absolutely free of charge.”
According to Niall Murphy, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at The Cloud, “Broadband wireless connectivity is an essential part of everyday living. We are very pleased to be working with HP on this innovative programme to ensure HP’s notebooks and Mobile Workstations are able to provide simple, fast and automatic access to the web. The Cloud’s vision is an integrated experience of always online connectivity. The partnership with HP enables this through high speed access to The Cloud’s network as well as the ability to access a customer’s personal list of WiFi networks.”
One of the world’s fastest growing WiFi operators, The Cloud builds and operates WiFi networks across Europe to provide simple, fast, broadband and open internet experiences for millions of WiFi enabled laptop, netbook, smartphone and entertainment devices.
