Las Vegas, 7th January, 2010: MSI, the manufacturer of notebooks, PCs and computer components, today announces the first notebooks to be based on Intel’s Calpella, the next generation Centrino platform, at CES 2010.

These new notebooks extend the C-Series and G-Series families, combining the most advanced Intel Core i5 ‘Arrandale’ processors with Microsoft’s latest Windows 7 operating system, leading to truly staggering performance from a notebook computer.

These advancements in processor technology allow MSI’s new notebooks to outperform their predecessors by a minimum of 30%. The notebooks also come with superior cinema-class high definition screens coupled with top-end surround sound processing for maximum audiovisual entertainment.

“In the months leading up to CES we’ve seen huge advances in software and hardware, including Windows 7 and the new Intel Core i5 and i7 Arrandale processors and Calpella platform”, explains MSI President Joseph Hsu. “We’re extremely proud to announce notebooks that make full use of this technology to significantly outperform their predecessors.”

MSI’s GX640 and GX740 Gaming Series notebooks are powered by Intel Core i5 Duo Core processors and industry-leading ATi Mobility Radeon HD 3D discrete graphics cards, supporting DirectX 11. The result – notebooks with the best display performance in the world when it comes to rich, vibrant colours and staggering detail.

In addition, the GX640 and GX740 notebooks are equipped with the latest Turbo Boost technology, designed to distribute system resources efficiently using Intel® Hyper-Threading technology. Smart Cache technology and the Graphics Media Accelerator HD technology boost performance of multimedia image accessing and operations, while SRS-certified Premium Sound speakers and digital 7.1 optical surround output provide stunning surround sound options. The GX740 incorporates fivespeakers for the ultimate in 3D notebook sound – two hi-fi 3D speakers above the keyboard, two more along the front and a woofer for deep, bassy explosions in the laptop’s base.

These are the notebooks that the world-renowned gaming team Fnatic wielded as they vanquished challengers in numerous gaming competitions around the world. Fnatic remains the uncontested champions with the highest number of accumulated points in the world.

The CR420, CR620, and CR720 Classic Series notebooks feature 14” to 17.3” LED screens. Designed for users wanting an all-round notebook that doesn’t compromise on power and quality, the Classic series uses the same Intel Core i5 Duo processor as the Gaming Series, offering the same hyper-threading benefits for increased performance.

MSI’s all-new Classic Series and Gaming Series notebooks are designed by MSI’s unparalleled design team, having been recently awarded Germany’s iF Product Design Award, the design world’s equivalent of an Oscar. The exteriors of the 14”-17” versions of the MSI Classic Series incorporate stylish, cutting-edge Colour Film Print technology, futuristic LED halo indicator lights, metal touch control keys with a unique brushed finish and a rhombic pattern in the area above the keyboard to add an extra layer of texture, quality, and taste.

The ultra-light, ultra-thin GX640 and GX740 notebooks both come clad in brushed aluminium alloy with iconic red trim and state-of-the-art luminescent touch sensor control panels to highlight the advanced technology and aesthetics of the MSI G-Series. And in keeping with their gaming roots, the GX640 and GX740 notebooks feature details such as the W, A, S and D keys being highlighted in red and an independent number keypad.

The MSI GX640 and GX740 notebooks will be available in the UK from March 2010. Prices start from £999 - for more information please visit www.msi.com or visit the MSI stand and press conference at CES.
